Triangle Receives Innovative Collaboration Award from ADDP!

Published by Zoe Campbell on

Yesterday, April 29th, 2020, would have been the day that Triangle, Inc. received the Innovative Collaboration Award at the Annual Association of Developmental Disabilities Providers Lead! Conference. The award was designed to honor an organization that harnessed the power of people working together to affect positive change. Triangle received the award in honor of the organization’s work with Save the Harbor, Save the Bay on the Better Beaches Project in 2018 and 2019. While the Triangle team is disappointed to not be able to receive the award in person, we are proud to celebrate our innovative initiatives!

In the summer of 2018 Triangle was awarded a grant though Save the Harbor, Save the Bay to visit area beaches and create a survey that evaluated their accessibility. Triangle program participants, with the support of Residential Direct Support Professionals, assessed four different beaches in the Greater Boston Area. They went to each beach with the intention of seeing the environment through the eyes of someone with mobility challenges. The residents and staff members surveyed the parking areas, bathrooms, water views from safest access points, and the beach pathways.

Triangle’s commitment to the project earned us a second grant to partner up with DCR and host the first annual Beach:Ability event in August 2019. Triangle’s Beach:Ability was a family-friendly and disability community-friendly summer celebration open to the public at DCR’s Constitution Beach. Over 100 community members joined us to enjoy the sand and water and celebrate the beach’s accessibility. You can learn more about this uplifting and joyful day here.

We are proud to be recipients of the 2020 ADDP Innovative Collaboration Award!
