Celebrate: Triangle, Inc.’s Annual Awards Ceremony and Fundraiser is just a few weeks away on Thursday, May 1. We are pleased to announce the presentation of the 2025 Carmella Gregorie Disability Advocate Award to the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Universal Access Program!

The Universal Access Program ensures equal access to outdoor recreation in Massachusetts state parks, beaches and trails. They manage all adaptive recreation equipment for people with disabilities to engage in different activities such as skating and swimming while offering inclusive events and programs to the community. Their efforts make it possible for people with disabilities to experience Massachusetts natural beauty and all the benefits that come from participating in recreational activities.

We have partnered with the Universal Access Program since 2018 with our annual Beach:Ability event, held each summer at DCR’s Constitution Beach in East Boston. The Universal Access Program provides floating and sand wheelchairs for the event along with staff members to help first time users have a safe and enriching experience. For many attendees, the event has allowed them to go to enjoy all aspects of a full beach experience for the first time in their lives. Additionally, the event is a powerful public demonstration of the Universal Access Program’s adaptive equipment offerings at DCR beaches seen not only by other beachgoers, but also the larger community through media coverage. Beach:Ability has reached more than 500 members of the disability community since its founding and would not be possible without the amazing efforts of our partners at the Universal Access Program.

We would like to thank the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Universal Access Program for their dedication and support to the disability community and making activities accessible for all! We are excited to honor them at this year’s event and hope to see you there! Click here to register today!
